In theory, it sounds fun to witness the glamour and chaos of the red carpet firsthand. But the truth is that once you’re done up, looking fine, and immersed in such superficial gatherings . I was quite excited going into this because the promise of short essays, original photography, and poetry combined into one sounded right up my alley. In this special event, Connor Franta sits down with Paul Klein from LANY to talk about their rising fame, musical inspirations, and much more. We’ll be in your inbox every morning Monday-Saturday with all the day’s top business news, inspiring stories, best advice and exclusive reporting from Entrepreneur.

Connor Franta Comes Out as Gay in Emotional YouTube Video: “I’m So Happy With Who I Am”

It’s doing business and creating art in many forms, but at the time, I went to [St. John’s University] in Minnesota, and Target is based in Minnesota, so I had in my mind that I was going to work for Target. I had a vision that my destiny was cubicles, working in the back of some room doing a nine-to-five, and I can’t imagine that now.

Although it was about his life experience, a lot of it definitely resonated with me. Inside you will find poetry, photography, essays, and letters. I had never read or heard of Connor Franta before this memoir and he’s basically a normal guy just trying to figure stuff out, like what exactly he wants in life – and I can relate to that. It is not running away, but sometimes we all need to do that in order to take care of ourselves. It’s hard to find someone who hasn’t experienced burnout.

Connor Franta’s Real Life

I was so out of it, I think because I was in a new environment. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my future, I still was trying to date girls, but I didn’t enjoy it. It was just that whole, ‘I’m going to be alone forever and that’s just how it is.’ In hindsight, I’m like that was 100 percent a depressive period. It was a thing that followed me like a shadow for months on end. While YouTube feels normal today, the site was only created in 2005, so your coming out in this way is truthfully a cultural phenomenon–something that’s never happened in LGBTQ history. I do, and I definitely dive deeper than I have before, but it’s also kind of a broad take on the experience of dating, breaking up and falling in love and out of love.

I know a lot of people have problems with so-called “YouTube books” but I have always had the attitude that if they can write something worth reading than to go for it. It is meant to be a reflection on Connor’s experience with depression, anxiety and an awful breakup over the past two years and it was just… not that. Totally, and it took so much convincing to convince people that it was a career.

Even though I’ve never been one to feel like I would ever act on those, it’s funny how that’s still something present in my darkest moments. Writing about it was a way to let people know that thoughts aren’t real, what’s in your head doesn’t have to be your reality. It’s something that’s completely comforting — a home — but then something that’s destructive, a fire.

Connor and Troye are good friends and are even rumored to be dating. A highly popular YouTuber, Connor has recently expanded his horizons and has delved into the world of words. His debut book, a memoir, ‘A Work in Progress’ was released in April 2015. The book became a bestseller and appeared on the ‘New York Times’, ‘Publishers Weekly’, https://www.mydatingadvisor.com/fabswingers-review/ and ‘The Times’ best seller lists, selling over 200,000 copies. It also won the 2015 “Goodreads Choice Awards Best Memoir & Autobiography.” In 2015, he also teamed up with Andrew Graham and Jeremy Wineberg to launch a record label, Heard Well. As an entrepreneur, he has also released his own line of coffee, called Common Culture Coffee.

I moved out to Los Angeles just for fun with a friend for the summer, and I’d already had a pretty big YouTube following at the time, like a couple hundred thousand. Note to Self is another intense memoir that focuses on Connor Franta’s life. This book explains why millions fell in love with Connor on YouTube. He connects with the reader on such a deep level you will feel like you have walked with him on his journey. While Connor is majorly successful, a Note to Self is mostly focused on the experiences he missed out on when growing up and some of the things he wishes to accomplish in the future.

He is the New York Times bestselling author of A Work in Progress and Note to Self, the CEO of companies Common Culture and Heard Well, and has amassed nearly half a billion views on YouTube. His public speaking engagements have put him on the same stages as Prince Harry, Naomi Campbell, and Hillary Clinton. He has worked with brands such as Samsung, Calvin Klein, Audible, Google, Nike, and many more. I had no idea who Connor Franta was before picking this up (I saw it in store and fell in love with the cover, HOW BEAUTIFUL IS IT?); I don’t follow youtubers very closely but I am so glad I read this. I can relate well with the author because of the way he feels and thinks and is in constant touch with social media. I went into this book fairly blind and didn’t even know who Connor Franta was.

Born in Iowa, he moved to California with his family when he was five. He has siblings named Isabelle, Rio, Cole and Tabatha. In 2016, he began dating model Meredith Mickelson. He was in a relationship with fellow YouTube star Andrea Russett, but the couple broke up in mid-2014. The pictures were beautiful and the amalgam of styles and layouts intrigued me and made me really want to read it, but its positive attributes end there.

Connor Franta is a memoir author and a global trendsetter. The talented creative has several million followers on YouTube and other social media platforms. Connor also founded Common Culture Coffee, and he raises money for The Thirst Project that supplies clean water for millions in Africa. After being a member of Our Second Life YouTube group for a few years, Franta left to operate on his own under Big Frame Network.
